A claim supplement is a claim for additional repair or replacement costs. Supplements are common in the claims process. However, if you are an insurer who does not know your policy rights, you may go as far as the hundreds or thousands of dollars you are entitled to collect.
Claim supplements usually occur after an insured submits a claim, is paid for and obtains repairs or replacements completed. Then, additional damage is discovered some time later.
Many people mistakenly think that, once the claim is settled, it cannot be reopened. And, insurance companies and their adapters usually don’t rush to tell you how to file a claim supplement. So, what to do? We deal with car insurance claims and property insurance claims.
For any additional type of claim, you should contact your insurance company and give them your original claim number. The best way to notify the company is to sign up, by sending Certified Mail. That way, you know he signed up for the letter. The insurer will have to reopen the application. You can get the same controller as before, but maybe not.
Additional Car Insurance Claims
Many supplements occur when cars are repaired. Many times, hidden damage is discovered when the body starts to dismantle the car. Therefore, while the insurance company may have issued payment to the bodywork from the original repair estimate, they will issue a second check for the additional repairs. It happens all the time, there’s nothing big about it.
However, sometimes post-repair problems do not appear immediately. A good example is the air conditioning system. If you have a car wreck in July, you may not notice that your heater is malfunctioning until the fall or winter. But when any damage is discovered that may be directly linked to the original insured loss, you can send a supplement. Just document the damage and its cause and send the supplement to the insurance company. No additional deductible is valued, since you have already paid it once.
Supplementary Claims to Property Insurance
Homeowners, Renters or Businesses may find a need for additional claims for some of the same reasons found in car insurance claims. Seasonal problems can cause damage relative to the original loss. But, other problems may present themselves. You may have a report from an expert that shows additional damage attributable to the original loss. Your contractor may have found hidden damage that needs to be repaired. However, carefully document your claim and submit it to the insurance company.
Make sure you are collecting all the money you are entitled to collect. Use additional claims whenever your claim requires it.
