What’s New in Employee Health Benefits This Year?

By Chloe Simmons 2025-07-06 Business&Industrial
Now, most countries in the world have established social welfare systems covering all citizens. Let's take a look at the social welfare of some countries.
France:
400 euros for planting 1 hectare of farmland, social welfare expenditure accounts for 34.9% of GDP
In France, citizens are protected by more than 400 kinds of welfare from birth to death. The characteristic of French social welfare is that regardless of nationality, as long as you have legal residence status in France, you can enjoy it.
French medical insurance is enjoyed by all citizens. According to personal income, citizens only pay a few hundred euros for medical insurance premiums each year, which is roughly one week's minimum wage. The unemployed are exempt from this fee. If only one person in the family works, the spouse and children can be included in their insurance, and the payment remains unchanged. Patients only pay 1 euro for registration fees each time they see a doctor, and all other expenses are allocated by the social security agency in their insurance accounts.
In France, farmers are subsidized 400 euros for each hectare of farmland and 300 euros for each livestock raised. Subsidized agricultural products must meet environmental production standards. For unemployed or low-income families, the minimum living allowance ranges from 405.62 euros to 851.81 euros per month, depending on the number of family members. If there are more than two children, 162.25 euros will be added for each additional child. From the fifth month in the womb to the age of three, if the parents' income is below a certain standard, each child can receive a childcare subsidy of 156.31 euros per month. If parents stop working or reduce working hours to take care of their children, they can receive a childcare subsidy of 320.67 euros to 484.97 euros per month. If a nanny is hired to take care of a child under the age of six, and the income is below a certain standard, each child can receive a subsidy of 65.46 euros to 199.78 euros per month. If a family has two children, the monthly subsidy is 108.86 euros, and 139.47 euros will be added for each additional child. When the child reaches the age of 11, the monthly subsidy will be increased by 30.62 euros, and when the child reaches the age of 16, the monthly subsidy will be increased by 54.43 euros. This subsidy is valid until the child finds a job.
National education in France is free from primary school to university. If the family income is below a certain standard, the child can receive a subsidy of 249.07 euros at the beginning of each semester. From junior high school to university, students can receive a scholarship of 54.9 euros to 3456 euros per semester.
People with disabilities can receive a subsidy of 109.40 euros to 1025.72 euros per month depending on their disability.
Some cities in France provide free public transportation to people with incomes below a certain standard, while some cities provide free public transportation or free bicycles to everyone.

United States:
The government pays for the medical care of the poor, and social welfare spending accounts for 21% of GDP.
Research data shows that in 1995, a mother of two children in Hawaii received benefits equivalent to a worker with an annual salary of 36,000 US dollars.
Primary school to high school education in the United States is free, and university education funding is mainly borne by the government, with students only bearing a small part. Tuition for community colleges is less than $1,500 per year, which is about 1/30 of the average annual income of American employees. In order to ensure that children who are qualified and willing to study can go to college, the government provides various forms of assistance to poor families.
The United States has a Medicaid system that provides medical services specifically for the poor, providing high-quality medical insurance for low-income families who cannot afford medical insurance, and all expenses are paid by the government. The Medicaid budget accounts for 22% of the state GDP, of which the federal government subsidizes 57%.
In 2008, a total of 49 million people in the United States received Medicaid, and the federal government spent $204 billion. Due to the economic crisis, the income of many American families has decreased, and the number of people receiving Medicaid has increased dramatically. In 2009, the number of people receiving Medicaid in nine states in the United States reached 9% of the total state population.
On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed a bill to lower the standard of Medicaid to 133% of the poverty line (in 2009, the poverty line in most states in the United States was: an annual income of $10,830 for a family of one, $14,570 for a family of two, and $18,310 for a family of three). In this way, more people will be included in the Medicaid system.
The focus of the American medical system is that for any life-threatening disease, regardless of whether you are rich or poor, you see a doctor first and pay the bill later. If you are rich, you pay for it yourself or the insurance company pays; if you are poor, the government pays for it, even the food expenses during hospitalization are paid by the government.
UK:
Refugees also enjoy high welfare, and social welfare expenditure accounts for 25.9% of GDP
The UK implements universal free medical care.
Education before the university stage in the UK is free, and 90% of college students can receive government subsidies during the university stage. Therefore, for low-income families, education from kindergarten to university is free all the way.
British social welfare covers all people living in the UK. A refugee in the UK enjoys very comfortable welfare housing in the UK, with a living area of about 80 square meters (living with another person), washing machines, refrigerators, gas stoves, TVs and other home appliances. If you want any daily necessities, just tell the welfare officer and you will get them for free. Bed sheets and blankets are changed and washed regularly for free. The British government gives him living expenses every week, which is more than 90 pounds in the first week and 35 pounds per week from the second week onwards. He still enjoys free medical care of the same standard as British citizens. He does not speak English, so the government pays for him to hire an interpreter when he sees a doctor.
Germany:
Social welfare expenditure accounts for 27.6% of GDP
Germans receive child support from birth, 184 euros per month for the first and second children, 190 euros per month for the third child, and 215 euros per month from the fourth child onwards. This money is received until the age of 25 or until they have a fixed income.
For families in need, social welfare almost takes care of everything. The relief money they receive is just "pocket money". The social welfare bureau pays for daily necessities worth more than 30.68 euros.
A reporter from the German Bild visited a family receiving relief. The male owner was 30 years old and his wife was 23 years old. They had a newborn child. Almost all the household items in this family, from slippers, shirts, child beds, to washing machines, televisions, and stoves, were purchased by the social welfare bureau. In addition, they can receive a monthly rent subsidy of 350 euros and a living allowance of 385 euros.
In Hesse, Germany, Mr. F lives on social assistance, receiving 350 euros in assistance and 112 euros in pension from the Social Welfare Bureau every month. The Social Welfare Bureau also pays the rent for his 100-square-meter house.
